The
Event
The first edition of the International Workshop of Applied Signal Processing (WASP) will bring together international and national researchers working in the field of signal processing and its applications in various domains. The event will offer a comprehensive technical program showcasing the latest advances in research and technology in the sector. Sessions will be packed with valuable lectures on cutting-edge topics, featuring world-renowned speakers and excellent networking opportunities with leading researchers.
WASP will offer plenary lectures with leading researchers in the field and technical sessions with a specific focus. All papers will undergo peer review to provide feedback to authors and ensure a high-quality program. WASP is a pioneering initiative in the country, as it is an international workshop with a specific focus on various topics of current interest in signal processing and its applications, and will be organized into chapters of the IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS).
Topics of interest
• Signal processing in arrays, waveform diversity, spatiotemporal adaptive processing
• Active/passive sensing
• Convex optimization
• Computational linear and multilinear algebra
• Computational methods intensive in signal processing
• Signal and information processing in networks
• Sparse signal processing
• Tensor and graph signal processing
• Statistical signal processing
• Signal processing with hardware constraints
• Machine learning and artificial intelligence
Applications
• Communication systems
• Remote sensing, geophysics, radar, sonar, acoustics
• Sensor networks
• Smart grids
• Integrated sensing and communications
• Computational imaging and big data
Information
This will be the first edition of WASP (Workshop on Applied Signal Processing), an international mini-event taking place in Brazil, explicitly dedicated to applied signal processing. Although signal processing has grown significantly worldwide, with numerous conferences and workshops held in North America, Europe, and Asia, Brazil has not yet hosted an international workshop of this kind, with a permanent (annual) character and a specific focus on the various current topics and applications of signal processing, as mentioned in the previous item. The field itself continues to expand rapidly, finding critical applications in science, education, health, communications, industry, and defense.
By organizing the first edition of WASP, our goal is to establish a foundation for this workshop to become a permanent event, bringing together expertise from Brazil and abroad around the topic, promoting collaboration with international specialists, and increasing the visibility of both established and emerging research groups in applied signal processing within the country.
Our expectation, therefore, is that this will be just the first event in an annual series we intend to establish, initially in Brazil, but which may expand to other countries in South America and possibly to other regions of the world.
Contribution for Professionals Involved in the Event
The proposed workshop is expected to generate substantial benefits for all professionals involved. For Brazilian researchers, professors, and undergraduate and graduate students, it will provide direct exposure to cutting-edge advances in signal processing and its applications, with a focus on emerging topics. Participants will have the opportunity to present their work, receive valuable feedback from internationally recognized experts, and establish collaborations that may broaden the scope and impact of their research. This exchange of knowledge will accelerate capacity building, expand research perspectives, and contribute to raising the overall quality of academic and applied projects in Brazil.
For international specialists, the workshop will offer a unique opportunity to engage with the rapidly expanding scientific community in Brazil and to explore potential collaborations with local universities and research centers. This interaction will help build bridges between well-established research groups abroad and emerging initiatives in Brazil, fostering new partnerships with long-term potential.
In addition, the workshop will serve as a platform for mentorship and networking, enabling professionals at different career stages to engage in meaningful dialogue. By connecting academia, industry, and international partners, it will promote the co-creation of innovative solutions with tangible social and economic impact. The contributions to professionals participating in the event will extend far beyond the workshop itself, establishing the foundation for sustained collaboration, mobility opportunities, and joint projects that will strengthen Brazil’s role in the global signal processing community.
The IEEE Signal Processing Society Northeast Brazil Chapter (SPS Northeast Brazil Chapter) will provide support to ensure the success of the event through the Distinguished Lecturer (DL) and Distinguished Industry Speaker (DIS) programs. Its ongoing efforts to strengthen the regional signal processing community will be expanded internationally, enhancing visibility and impact while fostering scientific development and generating long-term benefits for education, innovation, and industry.
